Proposals for printing were issued in 1796.

Preface to part one states : "This publication is the first part of a work which will comprehend a description of London and the circumjacent country ... it will consist of eight parts, making two large quarto volumes, one particularly relating to the metropolis, the other to its envrions"

Parts 1 and 4 concern the environs, parts 2 and 3 the metropolis.
